Lone Worker Protection

Lone workers can often feel particularly vulnerable, especially those staff who are new to this type of working environment. Employing bodies should be particularly mindful of their duties in relation to the health and safety of their lone workers. SM-2 will conduct an independent review of existing policies and procedures together with how effectively they are implemented. This will allow for the development of key strategies, including a risk assessment tool kit, thus helping to deter and prevent security breaches.

Conflict Management In The Workplace (Non Contact)

Through their work, staff often find themselves exposed to situations that can be confrontational and rapidly changing. SM-2 will develop and deliver bespoke conflict management training as a crucial preventative measure enabling the individual to be more confident when evaluating risks and taking appropriate action.

Conflict Management Incorporating Physical Intervention and Breakaway Techniques

Some employees work in an environment where they regularly have to deal with people who exhibit aggressive and violent behaviour. It is imperative that these staff are equipped with the right skills so that they can not only protect themselves and others, but be able to justify the use of any force in a court of law if so required.

Lone Workers – Building Confidence To Work Alone

More and more staff are now required to work alone and this brings with it the risk of accidents or other emergencies and exposure to violence, threats of violence and verbal abuse. It is of paramount importance that lone workers are able to identify any potential risks to themselves and that they are confident in their own ability to implement an appropriate strategy to mitigate that risk including how to conduct a Dynamic Risk Assessment.

Managing Lone Workers

By definition, many managers often work remotely from their staff. It is crucial that they have a full understanding of the potential risks that their staff face including their legal responsibilities towards them. This means adopting a proactive approach to policy development, implementation and where necessary, reviewing and amending such policies. Additionally, managers need to be aware of the affect that violence, threats of violence and verbal abuse can have on staff and how this can be mitigated by positive implementation of preventative measures.

Self – Teach Workbooks

SM-2 recognises that many organisations need to keep training costs to a minimum without compromising on quality. With this in mind, SM-2 has developed a series of modular self-teach courses, which provide the employee with a comprehensive lone working and conflict management training programme, which staff can complete at their own pace, without having to leave the workplace. This approach enables the employer to fulfil their moral and legal obligations to their staff in a cost- effective and timely manner. More than a training tool, the self-teach workbooks are also a permanent, practical guide that can be kept close to hand for quick and easy reference in the future.

spacerAnn and Jenny adapted the self teach personal safety training to suit the needs of our business. This was both a practical and realistic training option for us, meaning that we didn’t need to take staff out of the workplace. Effective and efficient, without loss of productivity – it completely
met our expectations.
